In a full-circle moment, the winning bidder on the Dark Horse was Ron Pratte, a generous philanthropist who bought the first charity car to ever cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block, a VIN 001 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 at the 2006 Scottsdale Auction.A highly anticipated moment on Saturday was the announcement of the Barrett-Jackson Cup winners. Hotrod builder Bobby Alloway and automobile designer and builder Troy Trepanier selected the Top 5 finalists and the Ultimate Best of Show winner from a field of nearly 50 incredible hand-selected custom vehicles. Taking the coveted and prestigious Ultimate Best in Show Award - and a $20,000 prize - was a 1960 Buick Invicta built by Andy Leach at CAL Automotive Creations. A custom 1961 Volvo PV544 built by over 165 women from across the country, led by Bogi Lateiner at her shop, Girl Gang Garage, received the People’s Choice Award, chosen by thousands of Barrett-Jackson’s fans who voted online at Cup.Barrett-Jackson.com.The day’s top seller in the Automobilia Auction was a 1960s Cougar Oil of Alabama double-sided porcelain service station sign (Lot #9470), which sold for $155,250, followed by a huge 1960s Mopar neon porcelain channel letter sign (Lot #9493.1) for $115,000 and a circa 1940s-50s Mobil Oil neon porcelain rotating Pegasus sign (Lot #9489.4) for $105,800.Nearly 200 cars crossed the block on the ninth and final day of the 2024 Scottsdale Auction. Sunday’s top sales included Lot #1597, a custom 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, for $258,500; Lot #1575, a 2007 Peterbilt 330 custom pickup, for $207,900; Lot #1612, a 2022 Aston Martin DBX, for $162,800 and Lot #1614, a 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda convertible, for $156,200.The last day started with another exciting look at the past, with more than 100 authentic pieces of history getting their turn on the block during the Automobilia Auction. An audience favorite was Lot #9598.7, a custom Volkswagen Bus Go-Kart restored by an 11-year-old boy, who joined Automobilia Director Rory Brinkman on the block to share details of the restoration and bang the gavel on the $20,125 sale.The record-setting event was made even more memorable with the exciting news that Barrett-Jackson would hold a four-day Fall Scottsdale Auction at WestWorld, to take place October 10-13, 2024. “You won’t find an equal celebration of passion for the automotive culture, which is why we’re also hosting the Scottsdale Fall Auction this October,” said Craig Jackson. “We’re going to bookend 2024 with two of the greatest collector car events of the year.”See you in Palm Beach, April 18-20!
