In 1999, he was selected by his director, Tom Scott, to undertake his crowning assignment at Ford - the creation of a totally new, state-of-the-art reinterpretation of the classic Ford GT race car. Compounding the difficulty of the task, the original Ford GT was in fact a constant evolution of Eric Broadley’s original Lola GT of the early 1960s – one that gained a myriad of scoops, spoilers, cooling ducts, and several open and closed body styles created for the demanding requirements of specific races and tracks. A key influence on this new Ford GT was the “New Edge” design language advanced by Jack Telnack during the 1990s, which begat the stunning Ford GT90 concept car of 1995 and redesigned Mustang for 1999. Early brainstorming sessions and initial sketches by Camilo and his fellow designers quickly progressed to 3D computer models that were then translated into full-size representations. Ensuring secrecy worthy of a covert operation, this work was conducted at a satellite studio in a hidden location under the unlikely codename “Petunia.” - - - ENSURING SECRECY WORTHY OF A COVERT OPERATION, THIS WORK WAS CONDUCTED AT A SATELLITE STUDIO IN A HIDDEN LOCATION UNDER THE UNLIKELY CODENAME “PETUNIA.” - - -
