Among the top sellers was a 1920s-30s Red
Hat Motor Oil dial thermometer, which sold
for $65,550. Additional top sellers were a 1957
Mobil Oil right-facing Pegasus porcelain with
animated neon sign that sold for $57,500,
and a 1970s Road Runner embossed sign with
animated neon selling for $51,750.
Monday’s docket featured nearly 100 vehicles
that represented decades of automotive history,
ranging from a Ford Model T to a Pontiac
Firebird. The top-selling vehicle of the day was a
1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda that sold for $110,000.
One of the most exciting moments of Tuesday
night was when back-to-back Cadillacs, a 1970
De Ville convertible and a 1969 Coupe De
Ville convertible, each sold for $110,000; both
setting new auction world records.
RECORD-SETTING WEDNESDAY
Enthusiastic bidding kept the audience
excited as the day progressed, and over 30
auction world records were set. The day’s
top-selling vehicle was a 1970 Plymouth
Barracuda Gran Coupe, which crossed the
block for $143,000.
Some of the day’s other highlights included a
1970 Dodge Coronet custom coupe that sold
for $137,500; a 1940 Ford custom Deluxe
coupe and a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28,
each selling for $107,800.
TRENDSETTING THURSDAY
Day after day, the Scottsdale Auction
continued to see record attendance,
extraordinary sales and dozens of new world
record sales set. Thursday, January 26, was a
shining example, with a 1969 Pontiac GTO
Judge Ram Air III that sold for $275,000,
making it the day’s top-selling vehicle
followed by a 1961 Lincoln Continental
custom sedan that set a new auction world
record with its $231,000 sale.
Following tradition, the day also included the
auction of colorful, eye-catching automobilia.
Thursday’s top seller was a 1960s Exxon Oil
Service station pole sign for $57,500.
