44 BARRETT-JACKSON EXPERIENCE WINTER 2024The 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder stands as a groundbreaking hybrid hypercar, embodying a revolutionary hybrid powertrain that secures its place in the illustrious Holy Trinity alongside the McLaren P1 and Ferrari's LaFerrari. Unveiled as a concept in 2010 and later presented in production form at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 918 Spyder was Porsche’s highest-performing production car at the time, the culmination of the marque’s expertise in combining cuttingedge technology with the thrill of high-performance driving. Barrett-Jackson is offering bidders at the 2024 Scottsdale Auction the opportunity to take one home with No Reserve. At the heart of the “paint-to-sample non-metallic\Green Porsche 918 offered is its innovative powertrain, which blends a high-revving dry-sump 4.6-liter V8 engine, backed by a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, with two electric motors. The V8, derived from Porsche's successful RS Spyder racing car, produces a remarkable 608 horsepower and exhales through an Iconel exhaust system that exits between the cylinder banks at the top of the engine. This combustion engine alone would make the 918 Spyder a formidable supercar, but Porsche takes it a step further by integrating two electric motors. The front axle is powered by a 154-horsepower electric motor, while a 127-horsepower electric motor is connected to the rear. It all rides on 20- and 21-inch magnesium performance wheels, a signature component of the Weissach Package with which the Spyder has been optioned. The combination of these power sources results in a mindboggling total output of 887 horsepower and 900 ft/lbs of torque. This hybrid setup allows the 918 Spyder to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 214 mph. The electric motors contribute not only to acceleration but also to efficiency, allowing the 918 Spyder to achieve an impressive fuel economy of 67 miles per gallon, according to the EPA.
