40 BARRETT-JACKSON EXPERIENCE WINTER 2024Upon revealing that the Ford GT would make a comeback at the 2016 Le Mans 24-hour race, and a street version for the 2017 model year, Ford aimed to entrust ownership of its flagship car to individuals deemed fitting by the company. In pursuit of this goal, Ford established a comprehensive application procedure and established specific criteria for those seeking ownership of this high-performance supercar.Upon the initiation of the application process for the latest generation Ford GT, over 6,500 individuals sought ownership. The overwhelming demand prompted Ford to increase its production quota from 1,000 to 1,350 cars. The application form delved into details such as the applicant’s social media presence, the extent of their Ford vehicle collection, and their engagement in driving and event attendance. Evidently, Ford aimed to select buyers who would proudly showcase the GT, rather than keeping it stowed away with minimal mileage. Those who successfully advanced through the purchasing process were then subject to specific ownership guidelines set forth by Ford.Once approved for a new Ford GT, the prospective owner, with a valid driver’s license, worked with the Ford GT Concierge Service to select the options they wanted and where it should be delivered. After receiving the new Ford GT, for a non-negotiable price, owners were expected to hold onto the car for at least 24 months. The GT couldn’t be traded in for something else, and owners were expected to attend as many events as possible and drive the car as much as possible. The application and approval process remained unchanged in 2018, when Ford announced it was extending production with an additional 350 vehicles produced through December 2022. That said, Barrett-Jackson is offering a 2019 Ford GT – selling with No Reserve during the 2024 Scottsdale Auction, January 20-28 at WestWorld – with only 35 actual miles. Apart from registering to bid, there isn’t an application process or ownership terms. While inspired by the Ford GT40 that achieved historic victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1960s, the 2019 GT is more than just a nostalgic tribute, however; it’s a cutting-edge marvel that pushes the boundaries of automotive technology. At its core, the 2019 Ford GT is a mid-engine sports car, featuring a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis that contributes to its exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Under the rear hatch lies a potent 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, twin-turbocharged to deliver an astonishing 647 horsepower and 550 ft/lbs of torque. This powerplant is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch Getrag automatic transmission, providing lightning-fast gear changes and optimal power delivery. The Ford GT offered has been optioned with a weight-saving titanium exhaust. The aerodynamic design of the GT is not just for show; it’s a carefully crafted form that enhances performance. Active aerodynamics, including a deployable rear wing and an adjustable front splitter, automatically adapt to driving conditions, optimizing downforce and minimizing drag.
