VISIT BARRETT-JACKSON.COM FOR THE COMPLETE DOCKET 85Someone at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida, April 18-20, will join that exclusive company when the right-hand-drive 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Saloon shown here crosses the block with No Reserve. The DB6 offered in Florida was treated to a full restoration commissioned by a previous owner in 1998, undertaken by R.S. Williams of London. The DOHC Straight-6 engine under the hood now displaces 4.2 liters and uses an unleaded specification cylinder head. With original Weber carburetors, power output has been dynodocumented at 310 horsepower. The engine is teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission. The suspension has been similarly updated, with brake and suspension overhaul performed using a Harvey Bailey handling kit and KONI shock absorbers. Servoassisted Girling disc brakes were installed in 2017.The interior exudes the warmth and character of a Grand Touring classic with beige leather seating surfaces, woodrimmed steering wheel, and a combination of Smiths and Lucas gauges. The bare metal repaint to Fiesta Red helps bring the DB6’s clean lines into full relief. Wire wheels were a hallmark of 1960s British sports car design and look particularly at home here. For the past eight years, this DB6 has lived a civilized existence in a climate-controlled garage. Documentation on the car is extensive, including British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certified Copy of Factory Record, owner's guide for the All Transistor Car Radio and the David Brown Aston Martin DB6 Saloon Instruction Book. The car’s life can be tracked through 18 pages of service records provided by Auto Sports Designs and extensive worksheets dating from 1990 to 2023. Elements of the DB6’s styling influence can still be seen in current Aston Martin Vantage and DB models. Those cars are creating their own impressive legacies, but this 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Saloon shows that the original source material is quite often the most appealing choice.
