                                    32 BARRETT-JACKSON EXPERIENCE FALL 2024WHERE SPEEDMEETS STYLE THE 1971 FERRARI365 GTB/4 DAYTONAThe Ferrari 365 GTB/4, commonly known as the Daytona, is an iconic model within automotive history. Unveiled at the 1968 Paris Auto Salon, the Daytona was Ferrari%u2019s response to Lamborghini%u2019s groundbreaking Miura. Named unofficially after Ferrari's impressive 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, its long, sleek lines, aggressive stance and powerful V12 engine made it an instant classic %u2013 representing the epitome of frontengine, rear-wheel-drive Grand Tourers of its era.The Daytona holds the distinction of being the last V12 Ferrari model announced before Fiat acquired a 40% stake in Ferrari in 1969, marking their control over road-car production. Following Enzo Ferrari's death in 1988, Fiat also acquired his 49% share of the company. Additionally, until the introduction of the Testarossa in 1984, the Daytona was the last V12 Ferrari sold in the U.S. %u2013 a crucial target market that played a key role in the model%u2019s success. The prototype models of the Daytona featured a front design inspired by its predecessor, the 275 GTB/4, which had softer lines and round headlights typical of the era. However, the production model of the Daytona broke away from these gentle curves. It adopted a sharper, more experimental design, highlighted by a fullwidth plexiglass strip on the car's nose.
