AUTOMOBILIA MAKES A
TRIUMPHANT RETURN IN
SCOTTSDALE AT THE 2020
FALL AUCTION
“It’s nice to be back in the live auction business,”
Barrett-Jackson Automobilia Director Rory
Brinkman quipped as the 2020 Fall Auction in
October came to close after what he called a
“very strong three-day auction.”
When the final gavel fell, 349 genuine, authentic
automobilia items sold for over $630,000.
Taking top honors at the event was an iconic
1950s Mobiloil Pegasus left-facing animated
porcelain neon sign, which went to its new
home for $40,250 – proving once again the
steady popularity of that segment of the
automobilia market.
Two other impressive neon signs ended up
among the top sellers at the special fall event:
a Shell Oil example from 1929 that brought in
$18,400 and a Texaco Oil offering from the late
1950s-early 1960s, which sold for $17,825.
Among the other extraordinary pieces that
ended up as top sellers of the Fall Auction were
a perfectly restored 1955 Texaco Oil service
station fuel island with two original Bowser
Model #955 gas pumps ($17,250) and a Texaco
Oil Wayne 515 visible gas pump from 1928 that
brought in $13,800.
A number of other unusual pieces were among
those that caught bidders’ eyes, including a
hard-to-find 1950s Coca-Cola “School Zone”
Policeman double-sided die-cut tin sign
($11,500), a perfectly restored Coca-Cola Vendo
81 coin-operated soda machine from the 1950s
($8,625) and an outstanding 953 Seeburg Model
W 100 diner jukebox, one of the nicest restored
examples known ($7,475).
