One of the most memorable and
heartfelt moments of the 2005
Palm Beach Auction was when Zack
Heger, a Barrett-Jackson superfan,
received a ride across the block in a
1968 Shelby GT500 E convertible.
In light of Zack recently passing
away, the Barrett-Jackson team
wanted to reflect on the short but
meaningful time spent with him
and his family.
Zack, who was born with a genetic
disorder called Duchenne Muscular
Dystrophy, had a passion for cars.
According to his father, Rodney,
Zack’s first word was “car.” He loved
cars so much that, after watching
The World’s Greatest Collector Car
Auctions on television for years, his
family took a vacation to Florida
in 2005, driving all the way from
Boston so Zack (just 11 years old at
the time) could realize his dream
of attending a Barrett-Jackson
event. Steve Davis, president of
Barrett-Jackson, heard about Zack’s
absolute love of cars and arranged
a once-in-a-lifetime experience for
him to ride across the auction block
in the Shelby — Zack’s dream car.
“Something we feel very strongly
about at Barrett-Jackson is being
able to help people that don’t have
the ability to get around like we do,
or don’t have the ability to maybe
experience an event the way that we
do,” Davis said. “I remember him
vividly riding over the block in the
Memories Shelby and how excited he was. All
Memories
of us at Barrett-Jackson send our
on the auction block deepest condolences.”
