of this happened at the 2021 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas
Auction when Lot #744, the 1994 Toyota Supra “Fast
& Furious” Movie Car took the stage. The Lamborghini
Orange Supra rocked the auction world and shattered
all previous records, selling for $550,000, becoming the
highest non-charity sale for a Supra ever.
Less a trend, but a rising factor in the hobby, is the
renewed interest in supercars. “Modern supercars
like those built by Ferrari and McLaren have long
been coveted by enthusiasts and collectors,” said
Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson.
“They represent the best in automotive engineering,
performance and design – and are becoming especially
popular among a surging number of Gen X buyers and
millennials attending our auctions.”
Cars such as the 2015 McLaren P1 (Lot #748) continue
to grow in popularity not just with the aforementioned
Gen X and millennials, but also with Gen Z. The P1
was the cover car for several highly popular video
games and a star at the 2021 Las Vegas Auction, selling
for $1,567,500. This translates to a large number of
viewers, future enthusiasts and potential buyers.
What’s the next trend? Hard to know for certain – and
those in the know probably won’t say – but we at
Barrett-Jackson take stock of past experience and look
to the interfacing of culture, communication and the
automobile. We cannot say what tomorrow’s brightest
and most desirable entries will be, but we know that
they will reflect an aesthetic built on what came before
it, seen through the lens of today’s younger eyes.

Barrett-Jackson’s return to the Sunshine State for
the April 7-9, 2022, Palm Beach, Florida, auction
is next on the schedule. This three-day event at
the South Florida Fairgrounds will mark the 18th
auction Barrett-Jackson has held in Palm Beach,
and it brings an atmosphere of relaxed camaraderie
combined with high-energy auction sales that fans
and aficionados enjoy alike.
